Would you like to know an easy way to reduce stress and boost your immune system? The answer to this is something that we do everyday, laugh. Laughter is good at reducing stress because it is a healing activity. You probably don’t know that laughter effects us on three different levels. These levels are the biophysical, biochemical, and bioenergetic.
On the biophysical level, when you laugh the lymph fluids are moved throughout the body by the convulsions you have while laughing. This is important because it boosts the immune system and helps clear out waste products from your organs.
Another great benefit is that laughter increases the oxygen throughout the body. When you are laughing you take in large amounts of oxygen at one time and when you repeat this process it acts as a temporary hyperventilation. This biophysical effect is the natural result of laughter.
Most people don’t realize that their body lacks oxygen. Oxygen is important for biological energy in the body. Many parasites and bacteria have a hard time living in the presence of lots of oxygen. So by having lots of oxygen, you can help prevent and may be even treat some diseases.
Laughing can also boost your circulation. So while you are increasing your oxygen level you are also boosting circulation of blood and exercising the muscles in your face. The harder you laugh, the better it is for you.
The last effect of laughter is biochemical. You don’t just experience a physical effect from laughing there are biochemical gain. Your body produces chemicals based on your needs and then distributes them throughout the body. So, as a result, when you laugh you create and distribute a vast amount of healthy biochemicals.
Laughter can counteract the harmful health consequences of prolonged stress. Researchers have found that your state of mind has an effect on the functioning of your immune system. By engaging in laughter you can boost yourself mental and physically.
Have you laughed so much you were almost crying and your stomach muscles hurt? That is something that you should do on a regular basis. Here are some things you can try if you want to laugh:
> Rent a funny movie.
> Watch a comedian.
> Be around children and watch the silly things they do.
> Tell a joke you learned or make one up and laugh at it yourself.
The bottom line, life is too short, enjoy yourself and laugh a lot. It is good for you in more ways than one.
